Same-Day Crowns
Restore Your Tooth in a Single Visit with CEREC Technology
Getting a dental crown used to mean at least two appointments, an uncomfortable temporary, and weeks of waiting. If that process has kept you from moving forward with treatment, we understand. Many of our patients here in Summerlin have felt the same way.
Same-day crowns offer a different experience. A same-day crown is a custom-made ceramic restoration that is designed and placed in one appointment using CEREC advanced technology. Instead of scheduling multiple visits and managing a temporary crown in between, you leave Harmony Dental with your permanent restoration in place the same day.
Dr. Tamsyn Burkett and Dr. Lauren Ing have invested in CEREC technology specifically because it improves your experience without compromising the quality of your restoration. Fewer appointments, greater comfort, and a precise fit are all part of what makes this approach worth considering.
What Is CEREC?
CEREC is an advanced dental restoration system that brings the entire crown-creation process into one visit. It combines computer software with in-office milling to produce precise ceramic restorations while you wait, rather than relying on an outside dental lab.
Here is what that means for you as a patient: no messy traditional impressions, no temporary crown to manage, and no second appointment to work into your schedule. The CEREC system uses computer software specifically designed to map precise images of your mouth. Those images guide the creation of your custom-made ceramic crown, which is milled on-site at our Summerlin dental clinic.
The most important benefit is efficiency without compromise. You receive a permanent, custom-fit ceramic crown in a single visit, crafted with the same precision and attention to detail you would expect from any high-quality dental restoration.
Who May Need a Dental Crown?
A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cap that covers and strengthens a damaged or weakened tooth, restoring both its function and appearance. Dr. Burkett and Dr. Ing may recommend a crown when a tooth has:
• Significant decay that is too extensive for a filling to restore effectively
• A crack or fracture that compromises the tooth’s structural integrity
• Undergone root canal therapy and needs a protective covering to prevent further damage
• Extensive wear from long-term grinding, clenching, or erosion
• A large, failing restoration that can no longer support the tooth reliably
Crowns also play an important role in completing dental implant restorations and anchoring dental bridges. Not every damaged tooth requires a crown, though. During your consultation, Dr. Burkett or Dr. Ing will evaluate your specific situation, walk you through the findings, and work with you to determine whether a same-day restoration is the right path forward.
The Same-Day Crown Process: What to Expect
Knowing what happens during your appointment can make the whole experience feel more manageable. Here is a general overview of how a same-day restoration works at Harmony Dental.
Step 1: Evaluation and Tooth Preparation
Your visit starts with a thorough evaluation of the tooth. Dr. Burkett or Dr. Ing will review digital imaging to assess the tooth’s structure and surrounding area, then discuss the personalized treatment plan with you. Once you are comfortable with the plan, local anesthesia is applied for your comfort. The tooth is then gently prepared, meaning any decay is removed, and it is carefully shaped to receive the crown.
Step 2: Digital Mapping of Your Tooth
Next, CEREC’s computer software captures precise images of your mouth. This digital approach replaces traditional putty impression trays, which many patients find uncomfortable. The result is a detailed digital map that becomes the blueprint for your new crown.
Step 3: Crown Design and On-Site Milling
The digital map guides the CEREC system as it designs and mills your custom-made ceramic crown right here in our office. No outside lab is involved. No days or weeks of waiting. Your permanent crown is created on-site while you relax.
Step 4: Final Fitting and Bonding
Once the crown is ready, Dr. Burkett or Dr. Ing checks the fit, bite alignment, and color match against your surrounding teeth. Any fine adjustments are made to ensure the restoration feels natural and comfortable. The crown is then permanently bonded to your prepared tooth, and you leave the office with the final result in place.
That is the entire process. One visit, one restoration, and you are done.
Key Benefits of Same-Day Crowns
Understanding the advantages can help you decide whether this approach is right for you.
One appointment instead of two. The most significant benefit is convenience. Your crown is created and placed in a single visit, which means one round of anesthesia, one block of time in the chair, and no return trip.
No temporary crown. With traditional crowns, you wear a temporary restoration for weeks while the permanent one is fabricated at an outside lab. Temporaries can shift, crack, or cause sensitivity. Same-day restorations eliminate that interim step.
Computer-guided precision. CEREC’s software maps precise images of your mouth, helping create a restoration that fits accurately and closely. This digital approach is also more comfortable than traditional impression methods.
Custom ceramic that blends with your smile. Each crown is crafted from a ceramic material matched to the shade of your surrounding teeth, so the restoration looks natural and consistent with the rest of your smile.
Less time away from your life. We recognize the value of your time. Harmony Dental invested in CEREC advanced technology to ensure dental restorations are as efficient as possible for our Summerlin patients.
CEREC Beyond Crowns: Inlays, Onlays, and Veneers
CEREC is not limited to crowns. The same advanced technology can create several types of same-day restorations depending on your needs:
• Inlays restore the interior surface of a tooth when the damage is too extensive for a standard filling but not severe enough to require a full crown. Think of an inlay as a precision-fitted ceramic filling.
• Onlays covers a larger portion of the tooth, including one or more of the raised points on the biting surface. An onlay offers a more conservative alternative to a full crown when only part of the tooth needs coverage.
• Veneers are thin ceramic shells that cover the front surface of a tooth to improve its shape, color, or alignment. They are a popular option for patients working toward specific smile goals.
Each of these restorations is designed and placed using the same CEREC workflow. The best option depends on the location and extent of the damage, which Dr. Burkett or Dr. Ing will discuss with you during your consultation.
Caring for Your Same-Day Restoration
A CEREC crown does not require any special maintenance beyond consistent daily oral hygiene. The following habits will help protect your restoration and the tooth underneath:
• Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, making sure to clean along the gumline where the crown meets the tooth.
• Floss daily around the crown, just as you would your natural teeth
• Visit Harmony Dental for routine cleanings and exams so Dr. Burkett or Dr. Ing can monitor the restoration over time.
• Avoid chewing on hard objects, such as ice or pen caps, that could chip the ceramic.
• If you grind or clench your teeth at night, ask about a custom mouth guard to protect both your crown and your natural teeth.
With consistent care, your same-day restoration is designed to provide long-lasting results.

Frequently Asked Questions About Same-Day Crowns
What is a same-day crown?
A same-day crown is a custom-made ceramic restoration that is designed and permanently placed in a single dental appointment using CEREC advanced technology. It eliminates the need for a temporary crown or a second visit.
Do I need a temporary crown with CEREC?
No. Because your permanent crown is created and placed in one visit, CEREC technology eliminates the need for a temporary crown. This is one of the most appreciated advantages among our patients.
Will my same-day crown look natural?
Yes. The ceramic material is shade-matched to your surrounding teeth and designed to blend in with your smile. Dr. Burkett or Dr. Ing will verify the color and fit before permanently bonding the crown.
Is the procedure comfortable?
Local anesthesia is used throughout the procedure for your comfort. Most patients find the experience similar to getting a standard filling. Any mild sensitivity after the appointment typically resolves within a few days.
What other restorations can CEREC create?
In addition to crowns, Harmony Dental uses CEREC to create same-day inlays, onlays, and veneers, all crafted from custom-made ceramic and placed in a single visit.
Does insurance cover same-day crowns?
Coverage varies by plan. Our team will verify your benefits and explain your coverage before treatment begins. Harmony Dental accepts many major dental insurance plans, and we also offer CareCredit financing for patients who prefer flexible payment options.
Is every tooth a candidate for a same-day crown?
Most teeth that need a crown are good candidates for the CEREC process. In some cases, a different restorative approach may be recommended. Dr. Burkett or Dr. Ing will evaluate your specific tooth and help you understand which option will provide the best result.
