How to Make the Most of Your Dental Insurance Benefits

Most dental insurance plans are designed around prevention. That means your plan likely covers routine care, such as professional cleanings, exams, and radiographs, at little or no out-of-pocket cost to you. Understanding how your benefits work can help you save money and keep your smile healthy.

Key benefit: Most dental insurance plans renew on a calendar-year basis. Any unused benefits typically do not roll over, which means scheduling your preventive visits throughout the year helps you take full advantage of the coverage you are already paying for.

Here are a few tips to help you maximize your benefits:

• Schedule your preventive visits early in the year. Most plans cover two cleanings and exams per year. Staying on schedule helps catch small concerns before they become larger, more costly treatments.

• Understand your annual maximum. This is the most your plan will pay toward dental care in a given year. Our team can help you plan treatment in phases, if needed, to make the best use of your annual maximum.

• Ask about covered services before treatment. We submit pre-authorizations on your behalf for major procedures so you have a clear picture of your estimated costs before any work begins.

• Do not let benefits expire. Unused benefits do not carry over to the next year. If you have remaining coverage toward the end of the year, it is a great time to schedule any recommended treatment.

What if My Insurance Is Not Listed?

If you do not see your insurance plan listed above, we still encourage you to reach out. Harmony Dental works with patients on an individual basis, and our team may still be able to help. We are happy to submit claims to your insurance provider on your behalf, even if we are considered out-of-network. In many cases, you may still receive partial reimbursement depending on your plan’s out-of-network benefits.

Additional Payment Options

We believe every patient should be able to complete their entire treatment plan without financial barriers. Beyond insurance, Harmony Dental offers several convenient payment options:

• Self-Pay: We accept cash, personal checks, debit cards, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express.

• Financing: Qualified patients can apply for CareCredit, a healthcare credit card that offers flexible monthly payment plans. Our team can walk you through the application process and help determine if financing is right for you.

All co-pays and patient portions are due at the time of service.

Does Harmony Dental accept my insurance?

Harmony Dental accepts a wide range of PPO, and Medicare dental plans. Because coverage varies by specific plan type, we recommend calling our office at (702) 562-2400 to confirm that your plan is in-network before your visit.

Will my insurance cover the full cost of treatment?

Most dental insurance plans cover a percentage of treatment costs rather than the full amount. Preventive care like cleanings and exams is often covered at 80% to 100%, while major procedures such as crowns or implants may be covered at a lower percentage. Our team submits pre-authorizations for larger treatments so you know your estimated out-of-pocket costs in advance.

What happens if I need treatment that exceeds my annual maximum?

If your recommended treatment exceeds your plan’s annual maximum, our team can work with you to phase treatment across calendar years when clinically appropriate. This approach allows you to spread costs across multiple benefit periods and make the most of each year’s coverage.

Can I still be seen if I do not have dental insurance?

Absolutely. Many of our patients here in Summerlin are self-pay, and we offer competitive fees along with CareCredit financing for qualified patients. Dr. Burkett and Dr. Ing believe that quality dental care should be accessible to everyone, regardless of insurance status.
